Salisbury Canoe Launch

The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust approached Ecolibrium on behalf of the Salisbury Canoe Club to construct a recycled plastic canoe launch. The existing concrete launch was in a state of disrepair and had begun to crumble and erode away, making access to the river for canoeists and kayakers difficult. A new launch needed to be designed and built for easy access and egress to and from the River.

What did we do?

1.     Designed and constructed an 8 metre by 3metre recycled plastic canoe launch for the Salisbury Canoe Club.

How did we do it?

1.     We marked out the dimensions and location of the new launch, which needed to be built over the existing failed concrete jetty.

2.     The upright support legs needed to be hand driven into the River bed to provide a solid base for the structure.

3.     Bearers were installed and fixed to the support legs using coach bolts to form the frame of the structure. The structure was built with a 1:10 slope for ease of access and egress to and from the River.

4.     Decking boards were placed over the top to complete the launch.

What were the outcomes

1.     The project was completed on time, ready for the clubs first meeting the following week.

2.     The old concrete structure was dangerous with sharp bits of metal protruding from parts of the structure. The new recycled plastic launch covered the old structure, preventing any canoeists from potentially getting injured when entering or exiting the water.

3.     The 1:10 slope has made access and egress to and from the water much easier for club members.
